About Us
Federally Employed Women (FEW) Northwest (NW) DC Chapter was chartered on October 4, 1991.
About our Chapter
We are women who operate exclusively for the charitable and educational purposes of taking action to end sex discrimination and to promote the advancement of women employment in the federal service. Our goal works hand-in-hand in providing opportunities for our members to network, while improving their skills and the potential for advancement in their careers. We focus on providing developmental opportunities for women in all phases of their career and serve as resources for members to participate in national and local community events. Men are welcome to join and participate as well.
Our FocusOur direction each year is based on recommendations made by the members at the Annual Membership Meeting. The following are areas of ongoing program concerns:
TrainingFEW's Training program has three major functions:
|
DiversityThrough the Diversity program, FEW develops strategies to identify and eliminate barriers and increase diversity within the Federal Government. FEW examines the demographics of the workforce according to age, race, sex, ethnic background, religious affiliation, disability, and sexual orientation. FEW also seeks to expand the notion of culture groups beyond the categories protected by law and regulation to include socioeconomic status, body-size diversity, and family composition. Diversity training is offered annually at FEW's National Training Program and at all Regional Training Program's.
ComplianceFEW's Compliance Program monitors the progress made by the federal government in achieving equal employment opportunity evidenced by its adherence with statutory civil rights protections including: the Equal Pay Act of 1963, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Section 501 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and Civil Rights Act of 1991.
